Of days when travel agents used to receive free tickets Hotels welcomed us with fruit baskets
And little mints on the pillows
Upgrades were oh so routine for us
Cruises were our “thank you for a good job” awards
Commission checks –each one heavier than the other
Free car rental certificates, train passes
Hopping flights to see a play in London
Dining in Venice and back at work- refreshed
Loving every minute
In the good ole days

Vacation time – heightened security
Crowded, stressed personnel handle airline counters
TSA mercilessly tosses away that precious water bottle
Parched, undergoing screening
Every shred of dignity pulled away
Sans shoes, holding ones unbelted pant
Dressing again – in public
A sharp cattle call rounds us up
Sitting on a narrow middle plane seat
Tired, hungry, in my minds eye I make up a sign
